The magnesia obtained by calcining magnesite ore at high temperatures is called calcined magnesia. Magnesium oxide fired at 1400~1800 degree with coke as fuel is called dead burnt magnesium, also known as dead burnt magnesium; Magnesium oxide fired with coal or gas as fuel at 700~1000 degree is light burnt magnesium, also known as MgO CCM caustic calcined magnesia powder.
Lightly burned magnesium powder is odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, and insoluble in pure water and organic solvents. Its solubility in water is increased by the presence of CO2, and it can be dissolved in an acid or ammonium salt solution. It is prone to moisture and can gradually absorb CO2 and moisture in the air to form magnesium carbonate double salts.
